Bugzilla – Bug 1073
Mac: Audacity language set to "System" sets Traditional Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese incorrectly.
Last modified: 2018-08-20 11:45:59 UTC
Users with default system locale set to zh_TW wrongly see Simplified Chinese on a new installation if Audacity Interface Preferences are set to "System". See http://audacity.238276.n2.nabble.com/Bug-Incorrect-zh-po-filename-tp5734673p5734673.html. This can be fixed by moving the "zh" folder to "zh_CN". Users with default system locale set to pt_BR wrongly see pt_PT if Audacity Interface Preferences are set to "System". This can be fixed by moving the "pt" folder to "pt_PT".
I'm marking this as 'DEVEL-FIXMADE', because I think with https://github.com/audacity/audacity/commit/d59871d34118a9fb6286599981aee37554a48ac6 I've made the changes required in the bug description. Untested (by me) - only gone as far as that the Linux (Travis) build still compiles.
Tests ok on W7-HP 64-bit audacity-win-r5f985a2-2.1.2-alpha-09-sep-15 I always run with my language set to System and have never encountered this.
Tests well for me as per steps to reproduce on Windows 7 and Ubuntu 14.04 32-bit. Bug 1227 makes it impossible to test on Mac, so REOPENED for Mac as a precaution so we can retest after Bug 1227 is fixed (Release Note suppressed by moving into Steps to Reproduce). There are problems in Bug 1229 and Bug 1230 where Audacity set to system language is not in Galician or Valencian when the computer system locale is so set. (In reply to Peter Sampson from comment #2) > Tests ok on W7-HP 64-bit audacity-win-r5f985a2-2.1.2-alpha-09-sep-15 > I always run with my language set to System and have never encountered this. The point is that if your Windows system locale is set to some non-English Language, you want Audacity when set to "System" to be in that Windows system language.
Bug1227 is now fix-made, which was blocking the verification of the fix for this bug on Mac.
(In reply to Paul L from comment #4) Bug #1227 is now RESOLVED, which was blocking the verification of the fix for this bug on Mac. However I am not sufficiently language proficient in Portuguese or Chinese to differentiate netween th forms discussed in this bug - therefore I cannit test this
With no Chinese or Portuguese speakers on our testing team it is impossible to test this. Therefore I am going to close this as Resolved trusting Paul's Comment #4 and James' Comment #1 The worst thing that happens is that we re-open or re-log this - but I don't recall anyone complaining about this.
