Bugzilla – Bug 1444
Enhancement: pinch and spread gestures on Mac touchpad
Last modified: 2018-08-20 11:45:20 UTC
Pinch and spread on Mac touchpad should do what ctrl-mousewheel does: Magnify or shrink the waveform, with mouse position as the center of expansion, but also, zoom the vertical ruler in and out when mouse points there. This will require cherry-picking a piece of wxWidgets 3.1.0 into our build of the libraries.
Fixed here, with a change of Mac build procedure: https://github.com/audacity/audacity/commit/b6b9840d0649e0ab2bdf1375cf72d47f86a6ca13 Try it out, and maybe we won't be quite satisfied with the sensitivity of the control, but fixing that will be in our own code only. Don't forget to try out zoom in the vertical ruler too.
Testing on Mac El Capitan rcf2625a 20Jul16 the pinch and spread trackpad gestures appear to work as Paul intends on both the waveform and the vertical ruler - with horizontal, vertical and iagonal pinch and spread.
I can't test so we can defer to Peter on this one. Two questions. Is pinch and spread supposed to work on the surface of a Magic Mouse? Does it required extra software? I can't find a definitive answer. Not directly related, but are we npw confident that two-finger horizontal scrolling works on (a) TrackPad (b) Magic Mouse without SHIFT key?
It wasn't set to DEVEL - FIX MADE, so done that.

A Forum user user confirmed horizontal scrolling and pinch/expand without modifier worked on his TrackPad, so I think we are confident in RESOLVING this. I updated http://alphamanual.audacityteam.org/man/Mouse_Preferences and http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Next_Release. Any advice about using the Magic Mouse surface, especially for two-finger horizontal scrolling without modifier, would be helpful.
With the control suface of Magic Mouse on my Macbook Pro I can control scrolling with wiping a single finger acros the surface (a two finger wipe slides between desktop and a tools widow: calculator, clock, calendar & weather). Pinching and spreading does nothing on the Magic Mouse surface. CMD+vertical wipe does what ctrl-mousewheel does on my W10 PC
