Bugzilla – Bug 1461
Discrepancy in nomenclature between Pinned Record/Play head button and Preferences
Last modified: 2018-08-20 11:45:38 UTC
In Preferences>Playback the pinned head is referred to as "Pinned playback/recording head" - whereas the hovertext tooltip for the corresponding button shows "Pinned Play/Record head" or "Unpinned Play/Record head". In an earlier email thread when I aske Gale what he though we should call the button he wrote: >"Pinned Record/Play head" We should be consistent. ------------------------------------------------------ And on a related note I am totally unclear just why we needed to add this to Preferences anyway as Record/Play head button is always present on the screen. Also if we do carry this entry on Preferences>Playback then surely it should also be on the Preferences>Recording pane too.
(In reply to Peter Sampson from comment #0) If we left this in Preferences it would actually change to the name of the Transport Menu item I think, not the more colloquial version in the Pinned button tooltip. So it would be "Pinned recording/playback head". Record comes first because we wanted "input before output". I still venture the suggestion that it could move to Tracks Preferences, "Display" section, as "Update display when head unpinned". And the right-click Timeline Quick-Play menu item could be likewise "Update display when head unpinned" / "Do not scroll when head unpinned".
As titled the bug is INVALID because it is a text/wording change only and so should be handled via the wording page on the wiki. If having it in the preferences panel at all is being considered as a bug, then (Peter) you could retitle and re-open. I would probably close it again as not a bug, but now as RM, since as RM I see no problem with having items discoverable both via buttons and menu and via preferences panel - and actually see it as a slight advantage to do so. I *might* change my views on duplication of preferences after a discussion on quality, but I would hope to change yours instead. Closing as INVALID.
I agree with Gale that it would be better to move it to Prefereces>Tracks as it affects both Recording as well as Playback - and I'm sure we don't really want it duplicated in both those panes.
