Description Peter Sampson 2016-08-14 06:16:27 UTC
This is not just an issue with the

1) Sometimes (moonphase) I get "Quick Play enabled" as the tooltip when I hover over the pinned/unpinned head button.

2) Also "steps to reproduce" works on buttons in the Transport at steps 4 and 5 for Play, Stop and Record where I also get the tooltip incorrectly showing as "Show Scrub Bar"

3) and the same with the Play at Speed button in the Transcription toolbar

4) and with buttons in the edit toolbar also getting the same incorrect tooltips.

Also happens if you hide the Scrub Toolbar.

All tooltips show correctly if after clicking on the button you move the cursor away from the button and then back over the button.

Does not happen on W10

Does not occur on Ubuntu.

On El Capitan, if I disable Scrubbing Toolbar, the problem in Steps to reproduce continues for the Audacity session. After restarting Audacity, the problem disappears. However one new issue occurs - hover over Record button, click it, leave the mouse over the button then the toolip "Timeline actions disabled during recording" occurs.

Not a bad message, but not what we intend.

>Not a bad message, but not what we intend.

I disagree, it's a totally bad message a totally incorrect message - and a misleading message.

Don't forget that this is not just affecting the Scrub And Seek buttons it also afflicts other buttons in the GUI as explained in my original bug description.
Comment 3 Peter Sampson 2016-08-20 06:10:47 UTC
In order for this bug to occur you need to have started Audacity with no Scrub Bar (default and unchangeable currently) and then turn on the Scrub Bar.

The bug persists if you subsequently disable the Scrub Bar.

The bug does not occur if you never turn the Scrub Bar on.

Oops sorry, just reread Gales comment properly the "not a bad message" refers to something else not the origal report in this thread. Apologies ...

Upgraded to P3 and added a release note.

I assume you mean Scrub Toolbar. Assuming bug 1495 is fixed then I doubt this is P3 because most users will not see the issue. I fixed the typos and syntax error in your release note.

> The bug persists if you subsequently disable the Scrub Bar.
Not if you disable Scrub Toolbar then restart Audacity. Please see comment 1. Similarly if you enable Scrub Toolbar the issue does not appear until restart.

Yes, in comment 3 I meant "Scrub Toolbar" - sorry (one of the reasons I wanted the Scrb Ruler rename)

With Scrub Toolbar now disabled by default and with a clean audacity.cfg I get one erroneous secondary tooltip after clicking on the button and remaining hoverd - and the only button affected appears to be the Record button, which shows as a secondary tooltip "Timeline actions disabled while recording"

If you enable the Scrub Toolbar, then I get the "Hide/Show Scrub Bar" popping up all over the place as before.

Testing on 2.2.0 RC1 on W10 this now appears to work (Wxwidgets change?)

But on macOS 10.13 High Sierra it is still broken.
Comment 9 Peter Sampson 2019-04-15 08:27:26 UTC
Testing on macOS 10.14.4 with latest 2.3.2 alpha

This still occurs as in the Steps and in Comment #0

But now the incorrect tooltip given for all affected buttons is "Start Seeking"
Comment 10 Peter Sampson 2019-08-12 09:19:53 UTC
Testing on macOS 10.14.6 latest Mojave with 2.3.3 alpha jc007 of 12Aug19

The tooltips for the Scrub Toolbar work correctly

Nor do I get the problem with the Playhead as reported in Comment #0

The edit toolbar tips are correct

There is a residual to do with the Play at Speed - but as that affects Win as well as Mac I will log tht separately and close this
