Description Steve Daulton 2016-12-01 03:43:43 UTC
When playback is paused, you can switch immediately to recording with either "Transport > Record" or its associated key binding, but the Record button is greyed out.

Tested on Linux only, but assumed all platforms.

Side note: I think it would make more sense for recording to start from the paused position, but that's part of a much broader debate about "pause / stop / stop and set cursor".

Yes, same on Mac and Windows.
Comment 2 James Crook 2016-12-01 17:41:25 UTC
Titled changed as record is also greyed out when playing.

but when playing, the "Transport > Record" menu item is also greyed out and its associated key binding is disabled, which afaik is how it has always been.

Enabling recording when playback is paused is in keeping with the new "do on pause" behaviour.

That "do on pause" applies to the menu and key binding but NOT to the button is the bug.

Enabling "one click record while playing" ("stop play and do") would be a new feature request or "enhancement" which I would not consider to be integral to this bug. Furthermore, it would be inconsistent with what we do for editing and applying effects, unless we enable "stop play and do" for those as well, which is probably not what we want.

I think the bug here is:
"Record button greyed out while in paused playback".

I agree with Steve's comment. This bug is about one of the methods for Record on paused being unintentionally disabled. Title changed to "Record button greyed out while playback paused".
