Description James Crook 2017-08-02 12:53:25 UTC
Device toolbar contents width shrink with each movement of the toolbar.

Workaround: Drag the resize handle to restore a sensible width.

OOh so it does - that's not good.

But also note that with a brand new audacity.cfg it is possible to stretch the Device Toolbar wider than it;s contents/
1) Trash audacity.cfg
2) Launch Audacity
3) Expand Device Toolbar as far rightwards as possible
4) Note that the Device boxes stop expanding after abit leaving blank space in the right of the toolbar
5) Also note that this then does not allow the Device boxes to show their full content.
6) Expand the Audacity Window to full screen
7)drag the size of the Device Toolbar rightwards as far as possible
8) observe the blank space expandes more and the Device boxes remain the same limited size

On my W10 laptop 5 and 8 above mean that I cannot differentiate, by looking at the toolbar, between the loopback and non-loopback inputs on on onboard soundcard - insted to be sure I have to set the devices use Devices Preferences.

DEVEL - FIX MADE
https://github.com/audacity/audacity/commit/b792094b53767cb3981209b66046aabbdb78d372

"The worst symptoms of this are fully fixed.
1: The device info now uses all the space in the toolbar, no matter how the toolbar is resized.
2: The undocked toolbar can now be moved around repeatedly without changing size at all.

There is a small residual - a toolbar size change of a few pixels on docking. The contents though still fit nicely. The 'incredible' part of this bug is gone. I'd like us to close this bug as the residual of a few pixels change in the toolbar size on repeated docking and undocking scarcely matters."

Also the separate issue of not showing the full contents, as noted by Peter in comment #1 is also fixed.

Testing on W10 with audacity-2.3.0-alpha-8-8de9c53e9e66267a8b985f9d765dad417215db0f

The device toolbar no longer shrinks.

And I confirm that I can now extend the toolbar to see the "loopback"
