Bugzilla – Bug 178
Audacity will not compile with MS VC++ 2010 Express
Last modified: 2018-08-20 11:45:33 UTC
On 13 July 2010 I grabbed a clean copy of the SVN head. I tried to compile with MS Visual C++ 2010 Express and got four fatal errors. The complete error report is on the forum at the link supplied with this bug report. Two of the errors relate to ambiguous function overloads. The other two are too obscure for me to describe.
Andreas Micheler has a modded Audacity and successfully compiled with MSVC 2010. However MSVC 2010 Express is 'for evaluation only' and is also buggy - in particular it does not repaint the screen correctly, making it harder to use than MSVC 2008 Express is. I am changing this issue from a bug to an enhancement request. It's one we don't currently plan to act on. As this is only for the small fraction of users who both want to build Audacity themselves, and want to use MSVC2010, and as the topic is now covered on the wiki, I don't think it needs a release note. As it doesn't need a release note now I'd advocate closing it as wont-fix, AND demoting it to P5.
This does come up on the Forum fairly often. I think it's one of these we want to both WONTFIX and release note to stop people falling into the hole of trying with VS2010. Are we set up so that WONTFIX P3's can get pulled to Wiki?
Since steps are now on the forum I suggest "won't fix" and no release note.
> Since steps are now on the forum I suggest "won't fix" and no release note. I would prefer to release note since "Compilation" is a self-contained section with minimal entries. People could easily spend hours before going to Forum and maybe not even read the Wiki. If we have a release note we could spare a few people that angst who don't actually care they may be using an "old" version of VS.
Status moved to WONTFIX but retaining the release note with new Wiki link.
Moved to INVALID (it now is) so that it doesn't appear in release notes.
