Description Peter Sampson 2017-11-24 11:10:35 UTC
In 2.2.1 Audacity does not add a clip line between different recordings made on the same track,

This is technically a regression because this behavior was introduced in 2.2/0 when record-beside (Append Record) was made the default.

The 2.2.0 and 2.2.1 Manuals document this behavior - the 2.2.1 Manual has had an image with the Clip line added for reader clarity.

I would be happy with the Clip line or without - but if we leave it removed we will need to add this to the Release Notes - and update the Manual.

2.2.0 was the first release to add this clip line - in all earlier Audacity versions no such clip line was added between appended recordings,

The clip line can be useful - but it can also be a little confusing - the Forum poster who prompted me to add the image for 2.2.1 Manual was confused thing the clip line might somehow alter their audio.

Ideally I would like to see a preference so the user can choose whether to have clip lines or not - and I would recommend "off" by default.

Testing the latest RC1 (build id of this release candidate is 61f428) on W10-CE and macOS 10.13.1.

On both platforms the clip line has been restored when making subsequent appened recordings.
