Steps To Reproduce:
1. Click on the upper part of the vertical scale, above the 0.5 mark, in Waveform mode and note that the zoom occurs normally. 2. Click again and notice that the zoom reverts to the default.
Release Note:
Group: Zooming *When in either of the waveform views, vertical zoom in by left-clicking on the the vertical scale (or by using the Vertical Scale context menu "Zoom In" command) above the 0.5 level causes the scale to revert to normal vertical zoom level at the second click (rather than continuing to zoom in). Below the 0.5 level it continues to zoom in further with additional clicks. This is true whether in the upper vertical scale or lower vertical scale, i.e. above 0.5 or below -0.5.

Description Cliff Scott 2017-12-29 14:22:42 UTC
Vertical zoom in by clicking on the the vertical scale above the 0.5 level causes the scale to revert at the second click. Below the 0.5 level it continues to zoom in further with additional clicks. This is true whether in the upper vertical scale or lower vertical scale, i.e. above 0.5 or below -0.5.

This is definitely not a regression - this behavior occurs all the way back to at least 1.2.6.

I may have been "designed-in", "intended" behavior - nut it is definitely something that was never documented in any of the versions of the Manual.

Even if it was formerly a "feature" - it's one that we don't need now, given that we have the "Zoom Reset" command in the VS context menu.

Far better IMO for the left-click zoom to consistently zoom out and not toggle its functionality in this manner.

Does not appear to affect Spectrogram view audio - where the lefft-click in the upper quadrant of the Vertical Scale continues to perform a zoom in.

Does not affect Note Tracks.

Also note that after the first left click and zoom in above the 0.5 (upper quadrant of the VS that when hovering the cursor over the VS the icon remains the plus-magnifying glass - giving the user a visual cue that would lead them to expect further zoom-in.

Further note that after the first left-click, a second left-click anywhere in the VS including below the 0.5 will still cause the reversion to normal zoom.
Comment 3 Peter Sampson 2017-12-30 06:17:55 UTC
Also note that this bug also afflicts the right-click context menu "Zoom In" command in the same manner when the zoom-center target is above the 0.5.

Since it looks like we will be having an emergency, quicky, 2.2.2 release to deal with the P1s I am promoting this to P2 to put greater focus on it - as it really should be fixed.

Particularly since our only major new feature i 2.2.2 is like to be the new Vertical Scale context menu for vertical zooming which thus draws the users; attention to vertical zooming - so it's important to get it right.

Looks good on MacOS 10.12.6.

Tested on W10 2018-03-17 (build 88)

Looks fine now on Windows:
A) tests OK with the right click zoom commands
B) tuned on "Advanced Vertical Zooming" - tests ok with the left click VZoom

performed same tests on Macbook Pro 10.13.3 audacity-macos-nightly-2.3.0-bc6ed77.dmg - 28.48 MB | version: 2.3.0--17Mar18
and I confirm Cliff's findings
