Steps To Reproduce:
1. Open Audacity 2. Import Avengers.mid 3. Notice that the note scale extends from C3 to C5 4. Right-Click Zoom-Reset on the VZoom Ruler. 5. Notice that there are notes between C2 and C6 Expected result: On step 3 expected to see full range of notes.
Release Note:
Group: Imports and Exports * When you import a MIDI or Allegro file into a Note Track, you will only see a restricted rage of notes with 2 and a half octaves, for the notes. So important notes are not visible. If there are un-shown notes you will see black markers at the top and/or bottom of the note track display. **'''Workaround:''' Right-click on the note track's Vertical Scale and use Zoom Out or Zoom Reset

Description James Crook 2018-01-01 14:40:08 UTC
Audacity opens MIDI files with a restricted range, 2 and a half octaves, for the notes. So important notes are not visible. Many users may be unaware of vertical zooming. Suggested solution - Vertical Zoom to fit range of notes, when the project opens.
Comment 1 Peter Sampson 2018-01-01 15:10:40 UTC
There is a visual cue that there are more notes that can't be seem - there are black bits top and bottom which (presumably) indicate the vertical locations of invisible notes.

This is inconsistent with what we do for import of audio files where when we import we show the whole track vertically as well as horizontally.

I'm thinking this should be P3 rather than P4 to make users aware. (It was only recently while testing and documenting Vertical Zoom behavior that I relaixed the the various MIDI files I gad been importing had a lot more notes than I realixed.)

Testing on W10 with audacity-2.3.2-alpha-236-1866be61453b6b2564deb961394c81e357f2baf9

The full range of notes in the Note Track are displayed - vertically now as well as horizontally when a MIDI file is imported
