Description Vaughan Johnson 2010-08-09 19:15:06 UTC
If you select multiple tracks, some effects/operations give a progress dialog for the overall operation, some for each track in the selection, and some for each clip in each track!

In most cases, the progress dialog should be for the overall operation, rather than for each track. The main point of a progress dialog is to see how long the whole operation will take. And if users Cancels, it should not be "for this and all subsequent unprocessed tracks" (as for the cases where each track/clip gets a progress dialog), it should be for the whole operation.

Computationally, that's not practical in many cases. In the cases where it's not, each dialog should indicate the name of the track it's operating on. Tracks > Resample just says "track 1", "track 2", not the track name. Track-specific progress dialogs should also indicate, e.g., "(1 of 4)".

We are required to release note P3s and IMHO this doesn't warrant it especially given the number of P3s we already have. Demoted to P4.
Comment 2 Gale Andrews 2011-02-17 13:24:34 UTC
Another instance where we have individual dialogues instead of one dialogue for the whole operation is "Export Multiple". Feature Requests has votes requesting
"Enumerate files in progress dialogue to say "exporting 1 of 5", "2 of 5...",
not string of "exporting entire Project" dialogues.
Comment 3 Gale Andrews 2011-03-27 12:06:42 UTC
Not sure if this should be separate or this bug widened beyond "tracks, clips, files", but as per http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334#c2

when you save a project there can be a second "Inspecting project data file" progress dialogue after "Saving Project Data". At a user level these are arguably not separate operations.

Made into an Enh.

We will need to discuss what we want, ideally on wiki.

This particular one got fixed a while back

Give that this was originally logged 9 years ago - and we have done nothing about it - does this mean that we are going to do nothing about it and this can thus be marked as WONTFIX.

I can recall no users complaining about this (apart from me who complained about the Export Multiple - which did get fixed).
