Description Peter Sampson 2018-12-18 07:31:55 UTC
The Ctrl+i shortcut for Edit>Clip>Boundaries>Split to create a split should really be in the Standard set of shortcuts as t is a commonly used command.

We have had posts on the Forum about this asking "why Ctrl+i" no longer works. We have to tell them to:

a) install the Full set which they may not want or need (they may have custom settings that would conflict) - or

b)tell them to create a single custom shortcut for Edit>Clip>Boundaries>Split
and we know than can be tricksy for lots of folks (its not the easiest part of the Audacity GUI)

I agree that including "Ctrl+i" in the standard set would be a good idea as I've seen quite a few forum posts asking about this. It is also a shortcut that I use regularly myself.

A small reservation I have about doing this is that there may be a few users that have reassigned "Ctrl+i" to do something different. In such cases, will their custom shortcut remain after upgrading Audacity?

I don't think so - see Bug #1800

Testing on W10 audacity-2.3.2-alpha-219-9ba023d607cb8a79cdf90c9b0ef9dec9af98e6a9
This shortcut now shows up in the Standard set of shortcuts.

Testing on macOS 10.1.4.4 with James' latest 2.3.2 alpha build of 06Apr19 this shortcut is not in the Standard set.

Testing on macOS 10.14.4 Mojave with 2.3.2 alpha jc002

The shortcut CMD+I now shows up in the standard set of shortcuts - so this looks fixed on Mac too.
