Steps To Reproduce:
1 Empty project, set Selection Format in Selection Toolbar to samples. 2 Open "Gen_bug_fix_orig.aup" in the attached "GenBug.zip". This is a project where track and project rate are both at 44100 Hz. 3 Select a region of about 10000 samples somewhere inside the third clip, then generate DTMF. 4 Double-click the third clip to check if it is still 220500 samples in Selection Toolbar. 5 Repeat steps 3 and 4 until step 4 produces a result a few samples more or less than 220500 samples. Save the project to confirm that clips 4 and 5 now have an offset that isn't exactly at 11s or 14s. 6 If slow to reproduce, try tone generation instead, and try generating a slightly smaller selection inside a selection already generated.

Description Gale Andrews 2011-03-02 09:22:34 UTC
Split from now closed bug 123.

On Win 7 SVN HEAD 02 Mar 11, I found this bug easy to reproduce in four to six repeats of steps 3 and 4. Another user on Mac confirmed similar in a test around the same time. None of the other clips change length. There are no unwanted extra clips produced at any time.

When testing the above steps in April 2010, I found the total length of the project reported in Selection Toolbar when clicking Track Control Panel did not match that obtained by summing the reported length of each clip. This is no longer a problem.

Project to test clip length change when generating at a selection inside a clip
Comment 2 Peter Sampson 2019-05-15 06:26:47 UTC
Testing on W10 with 2.3.2

I cannot reproduce this, not even with 10 creations of DTMF tones in Clip-3, it steadfastly remains at its correct original length of 220,500 samples.

Accordingly I shall close this bug.
