Bugzilla – Bug 396
"Files Missing" warning conflicts on project open with the "Missing Aliased File(s)" warning
Last modified: 2018-08-20 11:46:09 UTC
This only happens *if* Audacity is already open (even if you execute the .aup from Explorer on Windows). If you execute the .aup so that it launches Audacity, the "Files Missing" warning does not appear. On Windows 7, the "Files Missing" warning comes on top of the "Missing Aliased File(s)" warning at some times, but other times is behind it. On Ubuntu, the "Files Missing" warning is always on top of the "Missing Aliased File(s)" warning (and as where it appears on top of the Amplify dialog) cannot be OK'd or dismissed until the dialogue it is on top of has been OK'd or dismissed. Although the above is repeatable, most other projects where the aliased file is missing do not display this issue. But Vaughan reports in the URL thread that: > A friend sent me an Audacity project. He had some aliased files on > his desktop, but enclosed them in the rar he sent. So, of course when I > try to open them on my machine, the project file specifies his desktop > and Audacity sees the files as missing. I've tried recreating this situation by creating a project depending on aliased files residing on the Desktop, then moving them to the same folder as the project, or inside the project's _data folder, without success. So the bug is moonphase. The only way I can create the issue is to create a project with an aliased file 1 second long that therefore only has one .auf file.
Created attachment 175 [details] Stop timer operating while we do checks Oh what a tangled mass of error message logic we weave! We could stop the timer from throwing up the message while we run the DirManager::ProjectFSCK checks, as in this patch. But... A user could then select "Treat missing audio as silence (this session only)" but then get the offer: "Project check detected %d missing alias (.auf) blockfile(s). Audacity can fully regenerate these files from the original audio in the project." which looks like we said we would treat the missing bits as silence, but then volunteer to "fully regenerate these files"!
This is 100% repeatable, not 'moonphase'
Added patch keyword. > Stop timer operating while we do checks Thanks, Martyn. This stops the "Files missing" error appearing for me on Windows when launching Audacity then opening "\tests\Project Check tests\missing_aliased_and_auf_files.aup". > This is 100% repeatable, not 'moonphase' The test project is repeatable, but it was never repeatable for me or Bill with other arbitrary projects where the aliased file was missing. > A user could then select > "Treat missing audio as silence (this session only)" > but then get the offer: > "Project check detected %d missing alias (.auf) blockfile(s). Audacity can > fully regenerate these files from the original audio in the project." > which looks like we said we would treat the missing bits as silence, but > then volunteer to "fully regenerate these files"! Steps to reproduce: With Audacity 1.3.14 May 4 2011 1) New Project 2) Import one or more AIF or WAV files with read directly 3) Zoom in so the timeline shows about 2 seconds 4) Save project and quit Audacity 5) Move or rename the imported files 6) Open the project either by first starting Audacity and using File > Open or File > Recent Files, or by double-clicking the project - double warning appears Has Martyn's patch been committed?
(In reply to comment #4) > Audacity 1.3.14 May 4 2011 > 1) New Project > 2) Import one or more AIF or WAV files with read directly > 3) Zoom in so the timeline shows about 2 seconds > 4) Save project and quit Audacity > 5) Move or rename the imported files > 6) Open the project either by first starting Audacity and using File > Open or > File > Recent Files, or by double-clicking the project > - double warning appears What do you mean by "double warning" - that you get "Files Missing" as well as "Missing Aliased Files" on opening the project? And that unlike Win/Linux you get "Files Missing" even if you launch Audacity? The bug was marked as "Windows and Linux" because I understood you could not repro it on Mac. Please change OS to "All" if you think that is now appropriate. > Has Martyn's patch been committed? No. That's why this bug says "NEW" instead of DEVEL - FIX MADE". Still needs a developer to approve the patch in this case. If you wanted to build on Mac maybe Paul could help you?
(In reply to comment #5) > What do you mean by "double warning" - that you get "Files Missing" as well as > "Missing Aliased Files" on opening the project? Yes. "File(s) missing" appears first when Audacity tries to draw the waveform, then "Warning - Missing Aliased file(s)" appears after the project check. > And that unlike Win/Linux you get "Files Missing" even if you launch > Audacity? Yes. Launch Audacity then do File > Open or File > Open Recent and open the project. I don't understand how this could be dependent on first launching Audacity versus double-clicking the project file, as the "File(s) Missing" dialog is triggered when Audacity tries to read the file in order to draw the waveform. > The bug was marked as "Windows and Linux" because I understood you could not > repro it on Mac. (In reply to comment #6) > Launch Audacity then do File > Open or File > Open Recent and open the > project. That will give you the "Files Missing" warning on Win and Linux too. As it says in the Description: > This only happens *if* Audacity is already open... If you execute the .aup so > that it launches Audacity, the "Files Missing" warning does not appear. If you quit Audacity on Mac so that Audacity is no longer running, then execute the .aup and you see "Files Missing", it's different behaviour to Win/Linux.
patch tested and reviewed on mac. Committed in r11185.
(In reply to comment #8) Thanks Michael!
Fine on Ubuntu too, so RESOLVED - FIXED. Thanks, Martyn.
