Description Gale Andrews 2011-06-18 13:28:54 UTC
Reported on OS X 10.6.7. Unknown if affects other OS'es.
Comment 1 Ed Musgrove 2011-06-18 19:41:24 UTC
Does not occur for me Win7 SP1, 2 monitors side-by-side, secondary monitor to left.

Does this occur after Audacity is launched on the main monitor and dragged to the secondary monitor (as opposed to launching on the secondary monitor)? If so, test wxWidgets-2.8.11\samples\toolbar\toolbar.exe to see if this is a wxWidgets bug.

User says "yes".

Do you mean compile that sample? I don't believe user can compile and I assume giving him an .exe would not help him.

I think Ed's point is that it would tell us whether the bug is in wxWidgets or Audacity code. Seems Ed can build the exe, so if the user is willing to do a quick test, and it turns out to be a wxWidgets bug, we could probably WONTFIX this.

Sorry Vaughan, this is a Mac bug (not evident on Win7) and I do not Mac. If one of the Devs who can compile on Mac can build the Mac exe of the wx sample maybe we can post it somewhere and ask for someone on the forum to test with dual monitors.

Upon further searching I find this "confirmed" wxWidgets ticket which seems to deal with this:
http://trac.wxwidgets.org/ticket/4206
this is a very old ticket but not listed as resolved.

Yes that was my point - user would have to run Windows under virtualisation to test an .exe yet the problem does not apparently occur on Windows. I assume the widgets bug report is for Linux and bug 415 may occur there too. A more realistic alternative if Ed can build that Widgets executable for Linux would be to find a Linux user with two monitors.

Gale said "if Ed can build that Widgets executable for Linux would be to find a Linux user with two monitors".

I'm obviously having a problem with terminology here...

I propose getting a member of the Audacity Development Team to build a Mac version of the wxWidgets toolbar executable and having someone test this Mac build on a Mac with two monitors.

As for Linux, I tried to build the Linux wx sample but could not get it (or any of them--it complains that I do not have the correct makefile for my compiler) to build on my VM. I will ask Steve if he will build it and then we can look for someone with dual monitors on Linux (is that even possible?).

Sorry I didn't remember.

And it's P4. I don't think any Devs should spend time on it at this point. Of course if a Mac developer wants to, that's no problem.

I don't see the Tooltip problem on Ubuntu 10.10.
I've also built the Toolbar sample, and that appears to work correctly also.
