Bugzilla – Bug 563
Metadata: ID3 v2.4 tags in imported MP3 files are not seen so are removed on export
Last modified: 2021-02-17 13:44:35 UTC
Created attachment 301 [details] MP3 files with TDRC (no TYER) and TDRL id3v2.4 tags See attached "TDRC TDRL.zip" containing TDRL.mp3 which has a TDRL v2.4 tag and TDRC only.mp3 which has a TDRC v2.4 tag (but no v2.3 TYER tag). It is surprising that TDRC is not read as src/ImportMP3.cpp states in line 338 what happens when TDRC and TYER are both encountered and so TDRC only is read (which works correctly): > When libid3tag encounters the "TYER" tag, it converts it to a > "ZOBS" (obsolete) tag and adds a "TDRC" tag at the end of the > list of tags using the first 4 characters of the "TYER" tag. > Since we write both the "TDRC" and "TYER" tags, the "TDRC" tag > will always be encountered first in the list. We want use it > since the converted "TYER" tag may have been truncated.
*** STEPS UPDATED ***
Demoting this to P4 as we know we have a generic and much broader problem with our poor handling of metadata.
There is no proper release note provided by Gale either
See: https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Proposal_Metadata_Options
Actually, these are broken files. MediaInfoOnline doesn't see the tags and foobar doesn't display the value either. And several Linux utes have issues with them as well. Oh, and the tags aren't ID3V2.4 either. Dumping the headers shows them as ID3V2.3. I think this should be closed as NOT-A-BUG
(In reply to Leland Lucius from comment #5) I agree.
