Description Steve Daulton 2014-05-05 07:02:13 UTC
The Cut and Delete menu commands appear to be missing because they are in a sub-menu. This is unexpected as it is a universally accepted norm for basic editing commands to be in the top level of the Edit menu. It makes accessing two of the most commonly used commands less convenient.

Minor reordering of Edit menu

Taking into account previous comments (and reservations) in this thread, I have gone for a minimal fix to the issue, and look forward to consensus on further improvements in the future.

I have moved "Cut" and "Delete" back to the top of the Edit menu, so now we have:

Undo
Redo
__________
Cut
Copy
Paste
Delete
__________

The other "special" cut/delete commands are now in a sub-menu called "Remove Special" as per Gale's suggestion.

To avoid lengthening the Edit menu, I have put "Region Save / Restore" and "Lock / Restore Play Region" into one sub-menu (as suggested by James and Gale), but to minimise the scope of these changes I have not moved that out of the Edit menu.
To avoid possible confusion with "localization", rather than just calling this sub-menu "Region" I have (for now) called it "Timeline Region". If anyone has a better idea for the name of this sub-menu please feel free to change it.

r13156 Committed patch but limited to only the basic edit commands.

Other updates to the Edit menu pending outcome of Edit menu reorganization proposal.

Refer to bug 729 "Edit Menu too long and separates commands that cut and delete between root and non-standard submenu" which is created by the fix for bug 722.
