I've looked into this, and our TrackPanel is owner-drawn, whereas our MixerBoard is using widgets and sub windows.  wxToolTip can easily be attached to a window, but as far as I can tell there is no way to position one otherwise.

That really gives us two options:

* Convert the TrackPanel owner-drawn 'TrackInfo' class into a collection of windows using sizers.  
* Create our own ToolTip class which has a target area and that we control.

The second looks the better option.  We will likely need a timer, since tooltips vanish after showing for a little while.  Timers may be scarce resources.  They were in Win98 (max of 4 IIRC), and they are essential for audio io.

* The fundamental problem is how to both display the full name without having to edit it, while "signposting" the functionality of the drop-down menu. Considerable numbers of users don't know the menu exists, and don't recognise the down-pointing triangle as clickable (without RTFM) Ideas:
** Make the dropdown a true combo-box 
** Hover tooltip shows name when hovering over the name, but describes the menu when hovering over the triangle
** Allow horizontal resize of TrackInfo

RESOLVED FIXED

In 2.2.0 there are tooltips on all five buttons.  Moreover buttons highlight on hover, as do the slider pips.  Sliders have tooltip giving the value.
