Description Steve Daulton 2014-10-12 14:34:04 UTC
Steps to reproduce:

1) Generate 30 seconds of audio and select it.
2) Set Number of labels to 6
3) Set Add final label to Yes

Expected result: 6 labels.
The meaning of "Add final label" is ambiguous.

Actual result: 7 labels.

The description in the manual says:
"Choose whether or not to place an extra label at the end of the selected audio."
which in this case correctly predicts that there will be an "extra" label, but surely if the user wants 7 labels they will ask for 7 labels, not 6.

In that case I expect 7 labels with "Yes" and "6 labels" with "No", which is what happens.

I for one don't see it that way. How many users question that?

The Manual has been changed to read "Choose whether to place an extra label at the end of the selected audio, which will produce one more label than the number chosen at ''Number of labels''.

But I thought you had prototype rewrites of this effect on the Forum that avoid this "problem"? I found the behaviour of some of those rewrites at least as ambiguous as what we have now, but I think overall they were definitely an improvement. Can we progress on those?

As per my Ednote in the manual, that is incorrect or at least misleading.

I'm already on it. That's what reminded me that we should be tracking these issues.

There is no longer an option 'Add final label', so the steps to reproduce no longer cause a problem.

Testing on w10 06Aug17 nightly and macOS 10.12.6 10Aug17

On both platforms only the six labels are created bu=t the steps - there is no final label, there is no facility to requuest a finla label. This is as intended and as required.

Looks to be fixed
