Bugzilla – Bug 863
Gray button alongside "Left Channel" in Track Dropdown Menu - for stereo track
Last modified: 2018-08-20 11:51:48 UTC
In the Audio Track Dropdown Menu for a stereo track, There is a grayed-out radio button showing alongside "Left Channel". It is in the menu section for splitting an joining channels and the mono commands are correctly grayed out and inaccessible in the dropdown menu for stereo tracks I don't think that should be there, it makes no sense at all. The stereo track is not a left channel it is a stereo pair. It is likely only to confuse users, it confused me for a bit, it had me thinking "Have I actually got two left channels rather than a stereo track?". This was present in 2.0.6 and appears to hold in all the 2.0.x series - but it was not the case in 1.2.6. (Note: I made this P3 in the light of Vaughan's recent email indicating that we are likely only to have P1, P2 and P3 in Bugzilla post 2.1.0)
@Peter: Any P3 bug must be release noted, so as I replied on the -quality list, only having P1 to P3 doesn't seem practical to me. Look at the current length: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Release_Notes_2.0.6 . 1.2.6 did not have a checkmark (as it would have been then) to indicate Left, Right or Mono. I doubt this is P3, but what would be your suggestion to fix this whilst retaining the radio button? Hide the greyed out radio button?
(In reply to comment #1) Hide the grayed-out radio button - it is inappropriate, inapplicable and thereby potentially confusing & misleading.
(In reply to comment #2) Peter wrote: > it is inappropriate, inapplicable ... Surely that is why it is greyed out? To quote Wikipedia: "This convention is widely used in graphical user interfaces, to visually indicate which actions cannot be taken in the current situation."
I'm kicking this into P4 long grass.
This can be closed I think - as Paul's restructuring of the TCP dropdown menu no longer has this.
Paul's restructuring of the TCP dropdown menu for 2.1.2 has removed the entry for "Left Channel" hence the grayed out button no longer is there. It is replaced by a non-grayed button which indicates whether Waveform, Waveform (dB) or Spectrogram is the active view. This can thus be closed.
