Steps To Reproduce:
1 Install some arbitrary VST effects that work in Audacity. 2 Effect > More... , enable the effects and OK. 3 Install DFX Geometer from http://destroyfx.smartelectronix.com/ . 4 Effect > More... , enable Geometer and OK. 5 Open Geometer from the Effect menu. It will very likely crash. 6 Restart Audacity and open Geometer again. It should now load and work fine. If it crashes, restart and load the effect again then it should work. 7 Reboot the machine. Launch Audacity and open Geometer from the Effect Menu. It will likely crash. If it crashes, restart Audacity and load the effect again then it should open. 8 Reboot the machine. Delete the plugin*.cfg files, launch Audacity then Effect > More... , only enable Geometer, OK. Load Geometer from the Effect Menu. It probably will not crash.

Near as I can tell, this is a plain old storage overlay somewhere. Since the source is provided, I "could" try rebuilding it with debug info, but it'll have to wait for another day.

The first crash I received was due to a access violation writing to address "676F6C2E", which happens to be "gol." and it definitely invalid.

Testing on W10 with audacity-2.3.3-alpha-271-d84ab5948d544eec6ba6a648d76d31ef9d5edc88

I just cannot get this to fail (but I do note that it is marked moonphase - and W7) - also note that it's last update was vn 1.1.1 on 9Sep2005.

It downloaded an installed fine - and no crash at Step 5 initial use, and fine when closing Audacity and restarting. Tested in graphical and non-graphical mode.

Looks ok to me - and I recall no recent user reports of this.
